Today was my last day working as a reporter. While I’m antsy to jump in to my new job, I’m in no way eager to leave my boss, Tess Nelson, The World’s Okayest Editor. From that morning in October 2012 when she head-hunted me, I suspected we’d be fast friends. Her dry, cheeky snark has kept me in stitches ever since.
Her expansive laugh will be missed as much as her adorable son, Colt. Both of them spill into my office unsolicited, wholly confident they’re a welcome interruption to my day.
Tess’s laughs, wit and comments are as clearly red-headed as she and her son—they’re unforgettable, firey fun and stand out in a crowd.
Yes, I’ll deeply miss this gal and wish her all God’s best in the world. Like many relationships, we don’t completely agree on every topic, including my being pro-life-minded from the moment of conception. But aren’t differences what make relationships strong? Our mutual respect and care for each other will always come first, as we vow to continue our friendship. I’m so grateful that God sent her along my life’s path and wish everyone could have a boss-employee connection like we have.
But Omaha, Nebraska beckons.
My husband, Scott, has been commuting that hour drive from our home in Iowa for two years. And since we became empty-nesters in January, it’s time for me to follow the winds of change and cut strings from the place we’ve called home for 10 years.
On Saturday, I’ll hold a book signing at the Crawford County Right to Life event at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.
Then on Monday, I’ll step in to my new role as the director of Nebraskans United for Life! I look forward to working with those there who share the same opinions as I do. I’m also looking forward to building relationships with those of you who may lean to supporting other ideas. Supporting all life—not just for the unborn, but for those who have varying opinions—is my passion. I think if we could hear the heartbeat of God, it would be a resounding rhythmic, “People-people-people-people….”
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. —John 13:34,35
